Newsletter April 2015

Dear reader,

Various bits of documentation for my work „Memory Transition“ will be part of the symposium “Herdenken blijft een opgave” (To commemorate remains a challenge) that will take place in Tilburg, The Netherlands, at the Erfgoed Academie Brabant.

The main focus of the symposium is the question on how to keep new generations engaged in commemoration, specifically of World War II. It combines commemoration with finding a newer, more individual interpretation and meaning for these younger people.

The symposium will take place on the 9th of April and will be in Dutch.

If you happen to be around, please join us!

In the “Memory Transition” installation, the individual memory is placed alongside the collective memory: Culture shapes us as individuals but also shapes the way we perceive events. What the individual remembers can be very different from what the state, culture or a social group of people perceive as memory. And so the installation becomes a transition of the memories.

All the best,

Ina Marie Schmidt
