Newsletter December 2013

Dear reader,

This year has been a fruitful and interesting year —Berlin is treating me well.

Reading —and writing myself as well— has kept me busy over the last couple of months. With questions in mind about the experience of past events in the present, I travelled to Poland. Specifically to the former German part of Poland called Silesia. I travelled along with a group of people who grew up there, and who were forced to move away after the Second World War. Their perception of the past and their personal stories are fascinating. The difference between their historical perception of individual and collective history got me into reading Aristoteles, Frank Ankersmit and Kant. As you might guess, it will take some more years for me to get me to the core of it :)

If you’re reading this, and have any suggestions on what I should read, what to see, or to whom to talk to, please drop me a line. It would be great to hear from you!

The only thing left is for me to wish you all the best for 2014: I hope you will have a fruitful, inspiring new year with some happiness along the way!

Kind regards,

Ina Marie Schmidt
